DJ Shep brings two decades of teaching experience to his programs, having been a pioneer in introducing DJing, electronic music, hip hop, and alternative music culture to schools, community groups, and organisations across the state and the country.
Basic
DJ Shep has developed a hands-on, engaging program that has turned students into professional DJs and sparked lifelong musical passions.
Intermediate
Each program is developed and customised for the class's age, ability, and interests, ensuring accessibility and participation in real-world performances.
Advanced
Students stay engaged with current music trends while learning life skills that build confidence, encourage individual creativity, and ignite a deep passion for music.
Bringing DJ culture into the classroom provides a unique opportunity to engage students who may not connect with traditional music subjects. Through these programs, students are introduced to a new form of creative expression that is relevant, accessible, and exciting. This hands-on style of learning encourages confidence, communication, and teamwork, while also fostering lifelong skills and passions. Whether students pursue music professionally or not, they walk away with a strong sense of achievement and the confidence to express themselves.
The outcomes are both musical and personal. Students develop not only technical skills but also resilience, teamwork, creative thinking, and a newfound belief in what they can achieve. For many, this is their first time performing live or creating original work—and the sense of pride they feel is profound. The program aligns naturally with music and media arts curriculums, and offers opportunities for cross-curricular learning in areas such as wellbeing, technology, and cultural studies.
Listen up.
Here’s a powerful example of what students can achieve in this program. Each student created their own unique mixtape, recording a personalised introduction and performing their DJ set live using industry standard turntables and a professional mixer. They learned traditional mixing techniques hands on and brought their creativity to life in real time. This particular project featured students from Years 4 to 6, proving that with the right guidance, even young learners can step up, perform, and become amazing DJs.

No—everything is provided. I bring all the necessary professional equipment, including turntables, mixers, controllers, software, microphones, and cables. If your school or organisation already has music equipment, I’m happy to incorporate that into the program too.

Pricing depends on the scope of the project, number of sessions, and the goals you want to achieve. After an initial consultation, I’ll provide a detailed quote and a custom program outline that works with your needs and budget.
